Can you believe that Christmas is just around the corner, like literally next week? I can’t!

I am looking forward to some much needed time off even if I am only taking ‘shut-down’. That way I can use my holidays to extend my maternity leave (as I am definitely keen to have the full year off when baby arrives). And once I do return from my Christmas break I will only have 8 weeks left … I’m planning on working up to week 38 everything going well.
I’m excited to be able to spend this Christmas with my family – living in Canberra means that we have to do spilt Christmas/Easter i.e. one year in Sydney and one year in Canberra.
This year I hosted Easter in Canberra and we are heading to Sydney to spend Christmas with my family.
I’m excited to wake up in our house to open Christmas presents as just the two of us (for the last time), and then drive up to Bowral to have Christmas lunch at my aunt’s place. It is so much fun to spend Christmas day there – I love that we all love food, and that there is always Christmas carols playing, and that we all sit down to watch each other open Christmas presents.
Then we will drive up to Sydney to see my Dad's family on boxing day.
I’m hoping that my immediate family will be willing to head on down to Canberra next year for Christmas (when I will have a 9 month old)… otherwise we might head up there for Boxing Day.
I’m even more excited this year as Mum and Dad have hired a house at Kiama to spend a week at. It will be great to just hang out with my family and do things that we used to do when we were all at home – like play board games whilst eating Nana’s Christmas cake, or spending the day at the beach, or walking around to look at Christmas lights.
And Phillip is pleased to know that some of our great friends have also booked a house right around the corner, so that we can also spend some time with them. And maybe even head out for New Year’s Eve together (although Maria and I are both pregnant and won’t be having a big night).
I miss my family’s Christmas traditions – but I know that soon enough Phillip and I will be forming traditions of our own.
