Not even one African footballing country has ever excelled in any international competition, but if one were to make an XI out of the greatest Africans to ever grace a football field, it would certainly be a strong team.
Formation : 3-4-3
Goalkeeper : Thomas N'Kono

Arguably, the greatest African goalkeeper ever. He won the Greatest African footballer of the year 1979 award - and he had a great career in Spain, mostly remembered for his nine-year spell at Espanyol.
Centre-Back : Lucas Radebe

The South-African defender is known for his great performances with his country during the 2002 World Cup. "The Chief" was also the rock in Leeds' defense for 9 years.
Centre-Back : Samuel Kuffour

Kuffour was a defender with a wise-inducing physique and great awareness. He had a great career for Bayern, were he won the 2001 Champion's League. He stayed for eight years with the Bavarians, until he moved to Roma.
Centre-Back : Kolo Toure

He is probably the greatest ever defender that Africa ever gave to the world. During his time at Arsenal he won every domestic title possible - and he was one of Premier League's finest central defenders.
Defensive-Midfielder : Michael Essien

His good days may have passed due to his serious injuries, but during his prime, the footballer from Ghana was one of the best defensive-midfielder in the world. He did a great job of reading the game, stopping many attacking plays and then lead the counter-attack.
Centre-Midfielder : Yaya Toure

His past few years at Manchester City have been dream-like. He is improving in every single aspect of the game, season by season. He can control the ball, lead the attacking play, balance the midfield and score some great goals.
Centre-Midfielder : Abedi Pele

One of the most talented African footballers to ever lace their boots on a football pitch, Abedi Pele won the African Player of the Year award for three consecutive times. He put his greatest of performances for Marseille, where he won the 1993 Champions League.
Attacking-Midfielder : Jay-Jay Okocha

His performances in the Premier League was an absolute joy to watch. He is known for his stepovers, skill and excessive technique. He never really won any major title in his career, but his style of play made him a fan-favorite.
Left-Forward : George Weah

He is the only African player to ever win the Ballon d'Or - and probably the greatest of all African footballers. Now a politician and humanitarian, Weah is mostly remembered for his time at A.C. Milan, where he used to slice open the defences with his blistering pace and then unleash a great finisher.
Centre-Forward : Didier Drogba

Another Premier League great, Drogba is a footballer with talent, heart, mind and athletic abilities. He was Chelsea’s go-to man for every big occasion, as he holds the incredible goalscoring record in major finals, finding the net in four FA Cup Finals, three League Cup finals and, of course, the 2012 Champions League Final, where he gave the Blues their first and only Champions League.
Right-Forward : Samuel Eto'o

He may have been struggling to find a spot in current Chelsea's starting line-up, but his good days at Barcelona have left unforgettable memories of a striker who had great positioning, athleticism and an explosive finish.
